Chip: The Story of a Guide Dog Puppy
Published in Paperback by Cal Valley Printing (13 October, 2002)
Average review score:

Great storyI felt that this book was very informative for those of us that don't know exactly what goes on with the raising of a guide dog puppy. The kids in Miss Barlow's room did a wonderful job in writing the book and illustrating it. I feel that this book is good for adults to read as well as kids. Great job kids!
Great for the grandkidsI heard about this book in the local newspaper and knew my dog-loving grandkids would get a kick out of it. They enjoyed the pictures and the story--all done by the students. They love the story so much they read it to me every time I visit.
Sweet story! This is a touching story told from the puppy's perspective. Bright and colorful illistrations. Very well done. Great job Miss Barlow and Kids! I loved it.

Chronicles of Clovis

Wonderful stories. Unblemished prose. These short stories constitute some of the best in the English language. They have quite a range in tone, from the extreamely humorous Unrest Cure to the mystery of Sredni Vashtar. Only The Easter Egg diappoints. Written in an Edwardian prose that never disappoints, read it like it was one of life's little luxuries.
excellentblack comedy at its best. not for everyone. read only one story at any given sitting, or the flavor and the impact goes away. One of the Best short storie collections ever printed.

Locket of Dreams:An African American Fairy Tale in Modern Times
Published in Paperback by Books for Black Children (01 October, 1999)
Average review score:

A great book for every kid! This is a great multicultural book for kids of all races. It tells the universal story of hope and dreams in three wishes. And it also tells the importance of family and loving relationships. A story of morale, self-esteem, and insightfulness. It is a must-read for every kid. every classroom teacher, and school (pre-school through sixth grade) throughout the entire year!
Locket of Dreams, Modern African American Fairy TaleA most inspiring tale that makes the reader want to identify with this darling African American family. It is every bit as endearing as the The Silver Locket and as uplifting as Kipling's Just So stories. I would love to see this book in the hands of every pre-schooler and elementary student for its self-esteem raising potential. Wow!

Bugs! (Rookie Readers)
Published in Paperback by Children's Book Press (December, 1988)
Average review score:

Terrific early reader bookHaving just learned of this book while looking at an older age group of books,...I've found something worth buying for my brand new niece. Here the writer helps the child find out about all different kinds of bugs without getting into any detail (of course, for that age group...) and where they can be found and shows an observing nature,...not something where the child will be thinking of emulating in a negative manner. The illustrations are bright, animated and very fun to look at with each new page.
Lots of fun. Keep up the good work!!!

Clovis is too cute!Anyone with an interest in the French language or Louisiana's unique Cajun culture and wildlife would appreciate the adventures of Clovis the Crawfish. This story centers on Batiste the skunk who is teased by the other wetland animals because of his stinkiness. The story teaches the powerful lesson of tolerance and the appreciation of other's differences. Included in the book are many simple French vocabulary and phrases which are furthered explained and translated in the text. Check out the entire Clovis the Crawfish series.

The Last Matriarch
Published in Paperback by University of New Mexico Press (February, 1900)
Average review score:

A beautiful, contemporary novel set in pre-historic timesSharman Russell has returned to what she does best: write about the human condition in beautiful, poetic prose with humor, generosity, and a candor that makes you feel she was put on earth to express your thoughts for you. I wondered how she knew all my secrets as I read the story of an independent, though not stereotypical, woman in a tribe 12,000 years ago. She reveals a woman's perspective on her role in the group, her husbands, her children, her in-laws. Never saccharine-sweet, never a political diatribe; just clean, pure prose about a woman and her prehistoric neighborhood. I recommend this book especially to mothers, but I think men will appreciate it, too, for the light it sheds on "what women want". Whether you care about what happened to large land mammals or not, you will remember this book for its poetry and humanity.

Who Is Coming (A Rookie Reader)
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 2001)
Average review score:

Great to Read aloudLittle monkey, who lives in Africa, is pursued by several animals that also live there and one who doesn't. In his attempts to get away from his pursuers, Little Monkey has to run up, down, over, under, in, and out. He finally gets a rest when he realizes that his last pursuer, the tiger, doesn't live in Africa. This book introduces children to the concept that there are other places in the world and that different things live in different places. It also teaches them about opposites. This book is very charming and engaging. My two-year daughter loved it immediately and had me read it again and again. She now loves to read it on her own--to turn the pages to see "who is coming" to get Little Monkey and to tell the monkey to run. The illustrations are also engaging. A new classic for our house!

A wonderful way to introduce the cajun dialect.I was really excited to be able to share this book with my daughter. I grew up in southwestern Louisiana and this delight book brought back alot of memories. The story line was attention grabing and the pictures are beautiful! Mrs. Fontenot has been a fantastic children's author for many years and she just keeps getting better!! We look forward to enjoying many more hours of fun with her books.

very entertaining!this book is a wonderfully written, enchanting book suitable for children and young adults. it's not too long of a read also. i recomend it for anyone who's interested and although most of jane trahey's works are out of print, if you are a fan i would also reccommend that you watch the trouble with angels based on a novel of hers life with mother superior which is also quite enchanting and humurous.
